A cascade of data revolving into vortexes of colors of non reality. Dom was
floating into the essence of the nonsense, cheated by his senses and aware of
the illusion. He could understand concepts and strategies from shapes and
objects, all spinning around at unbearable speed, as to escape from some kind
of eternal chase.

He got nearer the white giant, a beast of overwhelming proportions, whose evil
laugh could shake walls and electric impulses. The enemy looked at him, as to
consider if it was worth to put an end to another meaningless existence, Dom
realized that it wasn't his lucky day in the matrix, he escaped.

²There was nothing else to do.

What you have just heard is a short piece of a²cyberpunk¹short story.²Cyberpunk
was a literary style who had a decent success at the end of the last century,
it seemed a sort of²science fiction¹with the ambition of describing the nearer
future, which actually happens to be our present.

It's interesting and somehow funny to notice how many of the predictions of the
cyberpunk writers resulted²false.¹They talked about a global²matrix,¹the
cyberspace, and a filthy world around it, based on²drugs, pollution, crime,
²hi-tech¹and²genetical engineering.

Yes, it would have been difficult to imagine just²30¹years ago, in a world
largely corrupted and degradated, our bright and peaceful present, they simply
couldn't guess that the most important man of history could appear on the world
scene and change radically its historical tendencies. When they were writing
their²cyberpunk¹stories,²Bradilion¹was just a child, nobody could imagine that
he was going to become the saver of humanity.

The pupils nodded respectul at the teacher's words, his lessons were always
interesting and they were proud and happy to follow them, as they were proud
and happy to be member of the new humanity, where²wars, crime, violence,
²Pollusion, poverty¹and²hate¹had been removed, where everybody could live in
peace with the world, everybody could eat and live comfortably, without
polluting the environment and without harming anybody.

These pupils were living in²Nolandia,¹a normal, peaceful little town like many
others in the world, or so they thought.

The²operator¹followed the lesson with bored eyes, the monitor which was showing
it was just one of the dozens he had around, and didn't show anything original.
The usual amenic, calm, serene scene of daily life in²Nolandia,¹or²VirtuaCity
as people outside it used to call it.

Virtuacity was the ultimate²virtual reality experiment,¹the biggest ever held
in the history of humanity, the most important computer project ever. A whole
community of real people had been inserted into a²virtual world,¹a village of
1000 citizens was living a²100% virtual life,¹completely unaware of their real
past and of the external real present.

"It's a great idea! Can you imagine it? A whole village living a completely
virtual life, we could study every kind of reactions on single real human
beings..." "And how have you called it?" "VirtuaCity! But it's just an idea, a
crazy idea I would like to perform when I am old, when maybe there'll be the
necessary technology" "Well, for the moment let's play Doom and live the
ultimate virtual experience we can have at home".

Dom remembered with nostalgia those years when he used to play²videogames¹
merrily with his friends and had fantasious ideas about whole²virtual cities.

A memory of the past, his present was a²dirty, corrupted, nasty matrix,¹where
human life was nothing more than a binary code and where information was dead
because everything was information.
